Borderless Change

Exponential transformations

Change is everywhere and moves at baffling speed. It’s not just an economic or technological phenomenon, is a vector that penetrates with determination in each sphere of our lives.

Culture, values, social customs, music, sports, religion, the plastic arts, all areas of our individual and community existence are affected by a wave of exponential changes.

Although humanity went through radical transformations in the past, what distinguishes our present is a series of changes without technological, cultural or social frontiers. We went through times of change that evolved, gradually, into an epochal change.

In addition to the political, economic and social changes we have experienced. in particular since the end of the Cold War (developed in the other notes), the information age and the technological revolution form and forge our daily life.

The challenges imposed by connectivity and digitalisation -fertilized by Big Data, artificial intelligence and robotics- constitute a profound change of time, that is shaping a new economy and a new political ideology throughout the globe.

Changes without borders are not based only on an isolated phenomenon, a singular event or a new technology, rather, they are shaped by the cross-fertilization of a set of events and technologies that enhance and influence each other.

This new phase of the international society defines new production and consumption standards, greater demand for food and energy, an accelerated cycle of urbanization, changes in the education system and in the provision of health services.

We are facing a new scenario, dynamic and complex. And even so, we should consider ourselves fortunate if our challenges are limited to dealing with these new realities. I wish we had the opportunity to work in the process of adapting to this new era. I am afraid that the speed, depth and dynamism of the change that we face would make my wish into a chimera.
