Carlos Magariños is an avant-garde, whose international career has been defined by anticipating economic and technological transformations, bringing together governments, businesses and social actors to turn ideas and strategies into policies, institutions and concrete projects.
From a very young age, he held leadership responsibilities related to economic development, productive transformation, innovation, and the creation and reform of institutions.
At the age of 31, he was appointed Secretary of Industry of the Argentine Republic. Four years later, at just 35, he won an international election —receiving 36 of the 53 votes cast— to become Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), a position he held for two terms.
His career has spanned politics, diplomacy, academia and business, and has been recognized with 39 distinctions awarded by governments and institutions across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Over more than three decades, he has combined executive responsibilities with sustained intellectual activity. He is the author and editor of around ten books and regularly presents his ideas at international conferences.
He has served as Secretary of State of Argentina, Ambassador to Brazil, Director General of UNIDO, Chairman and CEO, Senior Associated Member of St Antony’s College at the University of Oxford, and Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University of China.
He currently leads Global Foresight S.A., a strategic action platform from which he works on the economic, technological and institutional transformations reshaping the global landscape.
He lives in Argentina with his family.
