{"id":148,"date":"2018-11-26T19:44:43","date_gmt":"2018-11-26T22:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carlosmagarinos.com\/?p=148"},"modified":"2019-01-02T11:25:29","modified_gmt":"2019-01-02T14:25:29","slug":"el-despertar-de-la-tecnologia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carlosmagarinos.com\/en\/espanol-el-despertar-de-la-tecnologia\/","title":{"rendered":"The awakening of technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The technological revolution triggered by computer science and telecommunications over the last decades of the last century has expanded exponentially, fertilizing other disciplines (biotech, nanotech, etc) and driving us to the world of Digitalization, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>It is a key point in mankind\u00b4s history; everything that happens from now on will happen at a speed that we are not used to, even remotely. Some technological projections allow us to glimpse how disruptive the conectivity revolution will be in our daily life:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the next five years, Internet traffic will triple;<\/li>\n<li>The use of smartphones to access the internet will exceed the use of computers in 2020;<\/li>\n<li>The number of devices connected to the internet will be three times the world population by 2020, with 26,300 million connected devices;<\/li>\n<li>The data transmitted through the networks will multiplied by eight;<\/li>\n<li>By 2020, it would take more than five million years to look at the amount of videos uploaded to the internet each month (one million minutes of video content will be uploaded to the web every second)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What\u00b4s happening in the 21st century is surprising: although it sounds like a science fiction movie, it is impossible to predict the limits soon to be cross by artificial intelligence and robotics, and how they will modify human existence. The fact that the future is harder to forecast, however, should not be read as a bad omen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Although uncertainty generates anxiety and fears, it could also be a source of hope. Technology allows us to dream of a better quality of life and a more active, open and integrated society in the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of course, such goals are not to be achieved automatically. They will be under siege from multiple threats. The same technologies can be used to control and direct human life and to limit the citizen\u00b4s freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why we need to cooperate more than ever. Humanity already knows how important it is to work together to overcome potentially devastating threats.<\/p>\n<p>The development of nuclear energy serves as an example.
