Event organized by the Fundacion Agropecuaria para el Desarrollo de Argentina (FADA/ Agricultural Foundation for the Development of Argentina), which was a space for debate at the national level, with the participation of political, social and business players, for the purpose of reaching consensus on long-term state policies to promote sustainable development.

2013 The First G20 Think Tank Forum – Renmin University

The theme of the forum was “Great Finance, Great Cooperation, Great Governance.” The objectives of the forum focused on the construction of a more efficient and stable financial system following the financial crisis, the exchange rate, and current global economic policy, exploring new ways of promoting stable development of the world economy, as well as providing useful advice on world leaders’ economic governance.

2013 Montevideo Circle

Former Latin American presidents and specialists in education met at the 19th plenary session of the Montevideo Circle Foundation. The event, held in Peru for the first time, addressed the topic of “Education today: What and how?” in which the speakers discussed the main challenges in education in Latin America.

During the opening of the event, Julio María Sanguinetti, founder of the Montevideo Circle and former president of Uruguay, said that the current challenge in our region is to reduce the existing gap between education and society. “Education should give individuals what society needs; technology has completely changed the paradigms.”

Argentina’s ambassador to Brazil. After 20 years, I have returned to the national government. Over the past decade (2006-15), my work has focused on the private sector and academia. I founded Foresight 2020 and Global Business Development Network; I served on the boards of directors and committees of businesses and NGOs in the Americas, Europe and Asia, and I was named Senior Associated Member (Saint Anthony´s College, Oxford) and Senior Fellow (Chong Yang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China) of educational institutions. Previously, I was elected twice by an international committee as the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (1997-05, ONUDI). I was also Argentina’s Secretary of Industry and its Economic and Trade Representative in Washington DC (1993-97).


Carlos Magariños was the director general of UNIDO for two consecutive periods. He was chosen for this position in open, independent elections held among over 170 member states. During the 8 years he headed UNIDO, he managed a USD1.3 billion portfolio. The successful implementation of reforms under his leadership led to 150% growth in voluntary contributions.
