As an expert on international relations, industry, trade, economic development and the environment, Carlos Magariños has held leadership positions in the private sector and the government of Argentina, as well as in the United Nations.
Currently, he is the Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to the Federative Republic of Brazil. He has been Argentina’s Secretary of Industry and Mining, its Economic and Trade Representative in Washington DC and a Senior Associate Member of the University of Oxford. He held the position of Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization from 1997 to 2005, having been elected twice by the international community.
He is the author of a number of publications, among which 7 books, research studies and numerous articles extracted in international conferences and dissertations stand out. He has been Chairman Emeritus of the Global Alliance of SME and member of the International Advisory Board of the Council on Energy, the Environment and Water (India). He also held the position of Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Chong Yang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University in China.
His work in the field of business includes the founding of Foresight 2020 (2007) and the Global Business Development Network (2010). He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (Peru) and a number of international advisory committees of Argentine, Latin American, European and Asian companies.
